PATCH NOTES

Overview

Maryland high school students need 75+ student service learning (SSL) hours to graduate, and college, med school and job applications often ask for volunteer hours too. Community organizations also need an easy way to see who is showing up. Helping Hands is a web app for logging those hours in one place. I built it with a team of four.

Features

  • Accounts: Sign up and log in, so every volunteer keeps their own record.
  • Hour tracking: Log each session’s hours, type of service, organization and date, and see your totals.
  • Badges: Earn badges as your total hours grow.
  • Leaderboard: Compete with friends on a leaderboard to keep each other going.

Who it’s for

  • High school and college students tracking SSL or application hours.
  • Community organizations and corporate social responsibility teams tracking volunteer engagement.
  • Anyone who needs a record of their service.

Future plans

  • Find opportunities: Show volunteer opportunities near you.
  • Calendar: Keep upcoming volunteering dates in one calendar.
  • Group volunteering: Join another user’s volunteering activity.
  • Friends: Connect with others to coordinate volunteering.
